BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Village at Brookwood, a life plan community serving the residential and care needs of older adults, today announced it will begin building new residences, the first expansion of its community in 19 years.

Construction is expected to get underway in 2023 for phase 1 of the expansion, which will encompass the construction of 21 new “Garden Homes,” said April Mayberry, NHA, executive director. As such, The Village’s inventory of free-standing homes will increase by 50 percent.

“We’re very excited to be adding new residential options to our community,” Mayberry said. “The need and desire for quality residential housing for older adults is growing exponentially, and The Village is primed to serve this greater audience.”

Currently, Mayberry pointed out, The Village consists of 110 apartments in a five-story building and 45 one-story garden homes.

The new cottages – in two- and three-bedroom versions called “The Juniper” and “The Pine,” respectively – feature an open-floor concept, whole-house generators, tankless water heaters, two-car garages and floored attic space. They will be built adjacent to existing homes on land that was prepped for construction at the time The Village was constructed and opened in 2003.

The Village is now fielding inquiries about the forthcoming units and offering pre-construction sales opportunities.

The expansion marks the first significant move by The Village’s parent organization, The Well-Spring Group in Greensboro. Having managed The Village for five years on behalf of Cone Health, The Well-Spring Group acquired The Village from Cone on July 1. At the time the acquisition was announced, The Well-Spring Group alluded to exciting changes to come.

“Well-Spring is committed to seeing that capital expenditures, including expanding the number of living units and repositioning existing health care units, take place soon,” Steve Fleming, president and CEO of The Well-Spring Group, said at the time.
