The Village at Brookwood, a nonprofit Life Plan Community in Burlington, NC, opened its doors in 2003 on the site of what was once known as Memorial Hospital of Alamance.

When the hospital closed in 1995, two community leaders — Dr. Jo Watts Williams and Ralph Holt Jr. — launched efforts to study the feasibility of developing a continuing care retirement community for Burlington.

With positive findings from that analysis, the ground was broken for construction of The Village at Brookwood in November 2001. “Brookwood” refers to a geographical section of West Burlington.

Following a merger of Alamance Regional and Cone Health in 2013, today The Village at Brookwood is a member of the Cone Health family and is managed by The Well•Spring Group of Greensboro, North Carolina. This partnership combines the very best in medical care services with nationally recognized expertise in Life Plan Communities. The Village at Brookwood offers a full continuum of care services for older adults, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care.

When The Village at Brookwood first opened, 95 percent of its residents moved in from within a 3-mile radius. Today, we’re home to a broad, diverse group of residents with a wide array of personal and professional backgrounds. The Village at Brookwood is made up of 223 residents from 25 different states and 30 North Carolina counties, as well as six countries.

In 2018, its 15th-anniversary year, The Village at Brookwood is proud of the extensive renovations it recently completed to its gracious dining options, as well as many common areas. Updates of remaining spaces are expected to wrap up in 2019. Our recently completed independent living Garden Homes are now occupied as The Village eyes an exciting future of growth, expansion and continuing to deliver an exemplary lifestyle for its residents.
